Dave, Filipe, anyone. my helix-wound vertical has a couple of elevated
radials, which are not grounded. Everything sits above "ground", fed direct
with 50 ohm coax, about 20 ohms R at feedpoint. I have a 2.5 : 1 SWR in the
shack over about 60 KHz of the band. I haven't had it up very long
Sure glad I found this TB reflector with the scoop on everything
from antennas to protocol.
I would be lost without the sage advice of my big (signal)
brothers.

Anyone has idle station or needs operating help in CQ 160?

Fil,
My 80/160m antenna is configured identically to yours on 160m. Same
dimensions. In my case, with 90 radials of various lengths, I measured
an Rr of 16 ohms at the feed point. The SWR exceeded 2:1 in the shack.
I use a hairpin coil recommended by K2KW (Team Vertical) to bring the

The radiation resistance is 25 ohms. I estimate your base referred ground
loss resistance to be 10 ohms. So, you should expect a VSWR of 1.4:1 fed
directly with 50 ohm coax.
To obtain a better match you could place a shunt inductor (start with 4 uH)
across the feedpoint but you will have to shorte

Hi Filipe,
That's the best solution, assuming that you have a tuner in the shack
(or an amplifier with a tuned output that can handle a modest mismatch),
Hi Everyone,
just finishing puting up a T Vertical (exactly in T shape) using 2
supports at the ends.
The vertical portion is 18m and the T is 17m to each side (34m total).
I am laying radials from 20m - 40m (have about 20 right now).
My question is regarding the feeding of the antenna, shoul
Worked them during a "12" period right on 1812. He was only listening
exactly on 12 and at the time was clearly having a hard time hearing. 73,

While it may not be an every day thing, this is common enough on
topband so that anyone seriously attempting to work DX there
If you hear a DX station working people , and cant hear the

Jim,
Jim,
I disagree with your final comment. The sender is always responsible for
insuring he won't cause interference to ongoing communications when he comes on
frequency. Yes, the directions from HK0NA were unclear but I would venture he

Id expect the lower RF resistance of 2X more wire would help also.

That's great news! WAZ would be of GREAT interest to me. Hopefully, that won't
be in the too distant future. LoTW seems to be easily to use for those chasing

my opinion.
