Richard,
You are so right about that static issue. I even seem to remember the Rig
Experts manual says to short the antenna leads together to remove any static
build up before connecting the analyzer. I think that was why I wasn't too
impressed with my MFJ-259b. Probably my own fail when I firs
All's well that ends well I'm happy to report. K2AV, Guy suggested I check the
SO-239 on the Rig Experts AA-170 and I found an open solder joint between the
back of the connector and the circuit board. Even with my close in glasses and
a magnifying glass it was hard to be certain. So a little so

IIRC, what MFJ supplied was a tunable NOTCH filter, which might work OK
in situations where there is only one station that is strong

I did have similar issues in Keizer trying to dip anything on 160 meters. The
MFJ just would not work their. Had a radio station about 1/2-3/4th mile away
across the Willamette River. Found out I got a few 'diode' rectifying antenna
projects that way.

Hi Jeff,
Same story here and that is one reason why I am so disappointed my Rig Experts
AA-170 failed me. It's really a nice instrument to use in so many ways. Now I
thought the explanation of doing stubs was not nearly as good as using the
MFJ-259b. The MFJ had just been sitting out in my shop

The MFJ259 is a fine box but when you get to 80m with anything near a BC
it's going to be problems. In fact I discovered the hard way that even
up on 20m the box can read funky if your antenna is big enough or high
enough. I have a Rig Expert now as well and really love that thing -

Hi All,
I was discussing this thread with a microwave engineer on 75 meters this
morning and he reminded me that I had AM RF in my RX antennas at my
previous QTH. So much that I used Hi-Pass filters on my beverages and
pennants.
Terry, Do you have an AM radio station near by that could be messi
