Steve HA0DU - there is no need to react so painfully to reality.
Do you think that if in a log of 70 QSOs only 2-3 are real, then this is
normal?
This is not only not normal, it is a tragedy. Severe incurable disease.
However, I am not against the expedition. I wish you success Steve in
John,
Originally my inquiry was general, but it has now morphed into a European
one, as working EU seems to be the most challenging, and that is where the
need seems to be most acute.
There will be some common darkness both at my SS (W-EU) and SR (E-EU), but
signals to N. and central EU will
Hi George
Is your question aimed at North Americans or the all of us? I’m sure it’s at
least that rare here in Europe. We’d love you to try 160m.

Hello George. Hope you can fit it into your Pacific Adventures.

Hi JC,
Thanks for the info on propagation. I am sure you are right, but we will be
on a north facing beach, with not much chance for LP to anywhere.
EU and NA East Coast will be very challenging, but that is why we do 160.
I will be testing a new vertical antenna for 160 that meets USFWS
Jose,
Will get something going, either from Ofu Island (part of the Manua group)
or from the main island of American Samoa (Tutuila Island).
The problem for any low band operation from the main island of American
Samoa is geography. Only the south side of the the island is easily
accessible,
Hi George
During solar maximum the 160m propagation is different, sometimes a long
path surprise us, but every 28 days there are a couple of good nights with
good propagation. We just never know, the best QSO of your life time could
be any night on 160m, on any given month or any given year.
How did W8S do in EU on 160?

I could copy the W8S exp on 160m for at least 45 minutes.
I know they had high noise level so that was the problem.
Conditions or opportunities?

Hi George,
80 & 160m are very intresting in EU.
Clive,
Point taken with a couple of buts.
1) Optimum time for me in AZ is my sunrise, which today is 13:40Z. My previous
QSOs were at 13:25 and 13:30Z. At this time most of EU, NA and SA are in
daylight, minimizing QRN and QRM.
Your best opportunities are ~16:30Z; broad daylight for me
I missed you guys on KH8/S (multiple tries ). Would love to take a crack at
KH8 at sunrise here (1100Z - 1200Z).
Safe travels and 73,

Make an analysis of all recent Oceania logs:
https://clublog.org/expeditions.php
I won’t argue - several European stations with super reception have a
small chance...
But mostly those who use 10-20 kilowatts + WEBSDR will have “contacts”.

In 2013, conditions were normal.
Let's look at the log:
https://clublog.org/charts/?c=W8A
From normal Europe (zones 14, 15, 20) there are only two Finns in the
magazine.
There are no conditions today.
Feed the crooks from zone 16?
For what ?
There is enough injustice as it is.

Wes I would add that if you have worked it before and its confirmed, then give
those that do not have it a chance. After all it’s a local for the West coast.

KH8 is very much needed on 160. Pacific is always very
difficult from way north in Europe.
Even if it recently has been activated it hasn´t been possible
to work it. Forexample the W8S exp (I know not KH8) was
calling them for 45 minutes but since they had rotten

Hi George,
When it comes to 160, I am VERY small potatoes. I have worked KH8 twice on
topband:
November 2013 - W8A for a new one on 160. (I was still in W6 land.)
November 2014 - W1AW/KH8. (This was from VA, FM08.)

Hello TobBanders,
I am in American Samoa (KH8) and will be in the Manua Islands, AH54 (OC-77),
later this week. I may have a chance to set up a 160 m station and operate
for a few days. How much wanted is KH8 on TB? ClubLog indicates that it is
quite rare at #30 on 160 m, but I find that hard
