40-30-80-160 cw. Nice to see their almost instantaneous log confirming
qso's and eliminating the need to work them 2-3-4-5 times to be sure.
Nifty! They are new DXCC entities on both 80 and 160 for me.
Its hard to track their tendenc
Two nights ago they were fairly strong around 0500z on 1832 but so was
the QRN. Brutal copy.
Last night they were much better copy but again at 0500z they didnt
seem to be replying to NA stations, or any stations for that matter. I
called for 20 mins with no luck.
They also tend to QRX and QSY qu
Roger, Ive been at this QTH since 2009. Use #14 solid copper
(insulated) through the top corner insulator. It started out as a 20
ft tall, 1/4 wave for TB with a single ground rod and no radials. That
first winter with 100w I worked a 4X4 , an LZ, and a JA. I was
stunned.
Over the years as the tre
1. Had a fabulous 95 ft Buckeye tree at the rear of my last property.
After staring at it for a couple years, it got me on 160m with a 1/4
wave Inv-L (apex around 90 ft) Top Band came alive with my 100w,
producing 550 Q's on the CQWW160 SSB contest. I was hooked on TB.

. Here in Ohio we are still having moderate QRN especially in the
evenings. When I get on at our SR, the VK/ZL boys are often coming
through fairly well with much less QRN.
My INV-L has a ceramic insulator at the apex, which is held in place
by 3/16" black synthetic rope of some kind ( Home Depot
I got the idea of winding some #6 or 8? solid copper wire on a pvc
coke bottle from DJ0IP's website. Now I can "play" its length to about
2-2.5 times the original, and it resonates my 1/4 wave L nicely
between the coiled radials hanging on a tree position, and the
uncoiled radials spread out across
Been reading the encouraging posts. So, I got up and heard good
activity, working:
VK3HJ - ZL1AZ - VK2WR at Ohio SR and up to 20 minutes after, when the
band faded out.
Gud to hear Luke, Dennis and Adrian coming through so well, through
moderate QRN. Unusually warm temps here for mid Sep. ( 85-88F
Been hearing Don, VE9XX a lot lately. Worked him a couple days ago
beaming at 70 degrees.
Today he was strongest at 15 degrees ( from central Ohio.) I tried
five times to point the 5 el yagi at anywhere between 0 and 90 degrees
but always heard him best at 15 degrees .
BTW, Don reports many US-E
sosunds like you may have power line noise which wont go away, but may
vary with weather.
I had similar problems which I tracked down with an AM radio, and
driving along the roads around my house til I located the likely
culprit, a continuously arcing lightning arrestor on a pole about 0.7
miles a
Andy you were coming in head over heels above any other Euro last
night. I CQ'd but all my RBN reports were on the weak side. So maybe
it was a bit of one way skip.
However, this morning at SR I was getting good signal reports from
HL/VK. So westerly signals were doing better than easterly ones?
Been a long winter of very very few openings to VK, nothing much to
the Far Pacific, and a smattering of JA/HL/UA0's. Europe has been
pretty consistent post sunset, esp around 0300z and again at Euro SR.
But no new countries. However there sure is a reliable group of ops
that show up many nights an
Very helpful comments Tom. Mni tnx.
I have a 52 ft INV-L that I cant get any higher. and was thinking
about converting it to a T.
The current L with 26 radials does great in 160 contests, and pretty
good on the valued DX qsos, but have been tempted to convert it to
what I understand to be a much
