Last evening (East Coast NA Time) 160 was in great shape. Most of the usual
suspects were there with big signals. Some were a true S9. OH0Z, DL8LAS,
SM5EDX, 9A3JH, and OK1CF, all had FB signals. There was some complaint of QSB
on the EU side, but here in VA, it didn't seem to be a problem.
Hi George,
When it comes to 160, I am VERY small potatoes. I have worked KH8 twice on
topband:
November 2013 - W8A for a new one on 160. (I was still in W6 land.)
November 2014 - W1AW/KH8. (This was from VA, FM08.)

Unbelievably loud this morning (05-Sept) in VA at my SR. Honest S9, no QSB!

Hello Topbanders,
It is surprising how many ops still don't know how to call on 160 a DX form
the tropics.
Hi George,
This morning (local), 09-APR at 10:37 UTC, we had pipeline condx
Hi Ron,
And I thought it was just me. I too, had to resort to S because of the number
of dupes. In 9 hrs. of operating, I had 16 total, plus another 4 where the
operator caught themselves and said, "SRI." I have never seen anything like it.
I had a K2 who called me on Sat evening for a dupe,
Even after 35+ years of doing the Topband dance, I am still "surprised" at how
selective propagation can seem to be. Yes, I know all about S/N on each end of
the path, etc., etc. But when Andy speaks of working 40 NA, I am surprised.
During that same timeframe here in rural VA, I heard ONLY 1
In my experience here in "ROCK"ingham County, I didn't reach the point of
diminishing returns until around 32 radials of varying lengths (Most were
either 50 or 100' long.). Much would depend on length, configuration, terrain
and ground conductivity.

...were pretty remarkable! At local SR the VK6s were armchair copy!
Interestingly though, not a peep out of the JA big guns on this end. The
intrigue of TB goes on.

Thanks for the tip Andy.
Here in Ohio I notice quite often when EU is coming through on 160 after our

Thanks to all for the Qs this weekend.
This was a good contest weekend for me. I did far better than ever before.
My personal best for one night in a 160 contest was 34 EU stations worked;
57 for the weekend. This weekend I worked 42 EU Friday night and 50 on
Saturday night for a weekend total of
Thanks to all who replied on and off list to my question about elevating the
feed point over an on-ground radial field.
May the new year bring great conditions on topband.

Anyone on this list interested in a DXE NCC-1? I'm preparing for a
downsizing move and have a bunch of stuff that needs a good home.
The unit is in very nice condition; all functions as advertised. I'm asking
$350 shipped to the lower 48. I will consider shipping elsewhere with the
cost adjusted
Another Top Band Challenge has come and gone. This one will stand out in
memory for a LONG time. I began hearing EU a full hour before my sunset, and
by 2200 UTC (my official sunset) had logged 6 EU. This set the pace for the
evening.
Unfortunately, prior commitments allowed me only 5 hours in the

Conditions are awful with horrible noise this AM.? Haven't figured out whether
it is local or what. I don't need H40 and I'm defiantly not a fan of FT8.
Nevertheless, I set up the rig and
Nick, you had a very nice Q5 signal into West Central Virginia. I called you
numerous times but my 100 Watts never got your attention.
UX1UA also had a nice signal. We exchanged reports, but I was unable to
correct my callsign.
Other outstanding EU signals that made it into the log were LY7M,
