I had the same problem with a seagate goflex 3tb usb drive. your problem could be if your drive goes into sleep mode, make sure you have only 1 primary partition - no logical partitions. I never got mine to work, but am using a hitachi out of the box 1TB drive which came formatted fat 32. seems
