If I get a pair of Audioengine 5 and use the USB power out on top of the
speaker to power the touch what happens when the speakers go into
auto-standby mode after 15mins of silence?
I wouldn't like to reboot the touch every time I want to use it. Is the
USB power still supplied in standby mode?

I think you are mixing things up, the USB power out on the A5s isn't
meant to be able to supply power to a Touch, it's only there for
gadgets that usually are charged/powered through an USB port.
But the A5s do have a normal socket where you can plug in the power

As suggested, the Touch cannot be powered by it's USB input.
The A5's are wonderful speakers, I use them myself and have recommended
them to many others.
But they are hardly audiophile quality and are limited to a 3.5mm
mini-plug for audio input.
I find it highly unlikely the Touch power type

The A5 on the other hand has a linear power supply with toroidal

Are you sure that the linear power supply is what's powering the USB
port?

I guess he intends to make a converter cable with an USB plug in one end
and a Touch compatible coaxial power plug in the other end. Which could
be a nice idea, provided that the A5 outputs cleaner power than the
original Touch PSU. I remain skeptical, at least until I know more
about the A5.
Thanks, I should have thought of that. It makes a lot more sense to me
now.
I'm also skeptical about any audible differences, but at least one of
the many forum members who has A5s (I'm not one of them) could probably
answer the question about whether or not the dedicated USB charger still
gets
The share is read write from windows or linux, so it must be how the
share is mounted on the Mac. Unfortunately I know nothing about Macs so
I can't give specific help.
