I don't understand why album covers would be made an option for screensavers only after media scanning was implemented in 7.7. Album covers have always been scanned, so could have been made available previously. I can't say that I see any use for it, but this seems odd. -- JJZolx

Standalone = no plugins at all Higher resolution (beyond 24/96) is because the Touch's built in server cannot transcode at all, including higher resolution to lower resolution. Addl cons: slow scans can't turn off unnecessary scans (turn of HDD) -- toby10

I would never ever consider to run in plugin mode. That's an awful downgrade compared to run hw mode. I'm pretty sure that the poor usb controller plus drivers are making problems. If I wanted to go the USB route I'd either get myself a MAC mini with Pure Music on it or a slim Linux

and a web interface and much snapier reaction on pad and phone apps . the web Ui can be nice to acess from any PC in the house . and playlist bigger than 100 tracks ( more makes the Touch go belly up ). And ofloading it the server duties would make a difference and also faster to add new tracks
