Have a look at Squeezeplug as well which allows you to run the server on
a cheap (relatively) plug computer and use your nas for storage.

is not trying to transcode between flac and mp3 or
similar as that stresses the cpu.
set up right the qnap 119 should work, not sure of the spec of the
ready nas.

to have 256 ram, couldn't find cpu details. with
the 256 ram in my qnap i can stream individual flac files with
artwork/tags fine, haven't tries images. Hi rez stuff sometimes pauses
at the start of the track but then plays ok.

I have the same problem sometimes when going from MSB.com to SBS on my
NAS. Turning the Touch off and on in between is the work around i use.

Have you looked in the SB Server web interface to check if that is able
to display the artwork?
This also shows the progress on the artwork scan at the end of the
music scan in settings - information

be able to convert it to something the touch will
play fairly easily.
You may want to convert to flac once you've downloaded them so you can
add tags, save disk space, network traffic etc as there is no audio
quality loss.

To go back to the original question you can run Squeezebox server on
many QNAP NAS using QPKG to install SSOTS. The QNAP site explains how to
do this. Then there is no need to have your pc on when you are listening
to your music.
