Another nice feature for dbpoweramp is the Multi-encode functionality.
It allows you to rip discs in multiple formats if desired all in one
process. I rip my CDs to FLAC for the Squeezeserver and also rip to
MP3 for iPod/portable use.

Touch's USB has limitations over the full SBS server on a computer. USB
usage can also be hit miss on reliability. Best to use a self powered
USB drive for sure.
Why $3-$5k for a server? Heck, a $400 new laptop + external HDD would
be way overkill on processing power to run SBS.
Most run the
dbPoweramp also has a batch ripping application that comes in handy when
you're ripping many CDs. Multiple CD-ROM drives and a dual-core
processor can make the job go that much faster, too.

Search this message board for the USB hard drive issue. There are
problems with many drives, which turn off automatically after a period
of time. There are others that seem to work well. I don't have much
experience with these yet, but my WD My Passport has worked well for
the past few weeks
