Go into Preferences, down towards the bottom of the first page there is
a button for Import Settings, press that button. When that opens, the
top drop down menu change it to Apple Lossless, then hit OK, and then OK
at the bottom of the preference page. Go to the songs that are Apple
Protected
Or just convert to Apple Lossless within iTunes, that's what I did and
they work fine.

Are these tracks purchased from iTunes or were they ripped yourself from
CD's using iTunes?

You can easily remove the DRM yourself. I mentioned this in your other
post about DRM protected files:

Not all the old iTunes DRM files have nondrm files available via iTunes
plus. I have about 90 tracks that do not. I just converted these to FLAC
for use in my SB system.

How is this accomplished?
Burn files to cdr as music cd with iTunes. Then rip cdr as flac with
any ripper. I use dbpoweramp. I use flac because I didn't want lossy to
lossy conversion. So my resulting flac files are identical to original
mp4 files.
I think when I burned to cdr I had the option of writing table of
contents or something. And this allowed dbpa to see all my tag info
without reentry of data.

Look for iTunes Plus in the iTunes store in iTunes. This gives you the
option to upgrade previously purchased tracks to DRM-free versions with
better bitrate.
