I reformatted the drive using "MS-DOS format (FAT)" and recopied the
music files. The Touch scanned the files and, from my limited testing,
all plays well.

There is one option not mentioned here. One can download something
called a Live Linux distribution. A complete Linux installation that
will run from memory and loads from CD or DVD-Rom. I use Ubuntu

Thanks for all your help to those who replied. The suggestions about the
hiddien partition make sense, as the touch acts as if the drive is empty
rather than crashes or has other problems during the scanning. I
formatted the drive as Mac OS X (journaled). In retrospect, I probably

I was just trying out a WD hard drive with the SB Touch and had the
exact same problem. Turned out that I had formatted the drive (FAT32)
on my Mac and it created an extra partition. This was a very small
partition, but it was the first one. I think the Touch picks up the
first partition only. Del
Have you disabled the virtual cd partition ? if this WD drive has it ?

Sorry, I meant to say that it says "Discovering files: complete", when
it doesn't appear to have actually tried to scan the drive or discover

That's the problem -- it doesn't even scan. When I go into the
Squeezebox Server menu, it indicates "Scan Complete", but it hasn't
registered any of the files on the drive. I should also mention that
only 160 GB of the entire drive is being used.

Start the scan and then leave it overnight. Don't touch anything until
it is fully complete and depending on how much of that 1TB is used yes,
it could take all night. You can go into the settings and view the scan
details, and it might seem like it's done but could still be processing
