It's always running if you enable it.

Touch should always be running Samba, as it shares the system log
folder in read-only mode.

*If* you enable that feature -- you can leave that disabled even if you
do attach a disk. There's also a simple touchscreen UI for setting a
username & password for accessing the share.
Hijacker! :)

via CIFS? I like the idea of everything being self contained and having

Sorry if that has been covered before. I c
Thanks for the info. I'll look into this tinysbs.

I have a Touch, but unless I suddenly find a few hours with nothing
better to do I doubt I'll experiment with it. Like I said, when people

In other words,
If you have a Touch and feel like giving it a go and letting us know how

I really don't spend a lot of time in the forums and really don't know
the micro details of what's been implemented. Really didn't know there

Sure, the UPnP mode should work. But we never built an SP UI for it,
so it would only appear on ip3k players.

Well, since I don't have one and this topic is one that's sort of going
to make or break the purchase decision I may just have to let someone
else try it first and I'll just wait and see. If I had one I'd
certainly try it.

Could you have a web based UI for this that you would use from another
browser? I'm not sure it has to be very complex. More than no effort
though ;)

Feel free to try it, there are a couple reasons we didn't implement it:
* Would have to build a complex UI for browsing/selecting/logging in to
network shares.
* Performance would really suck because we'd need to store the database
on the share.
* If you have a network share, you could likely jus

Thanks for the response.
I'm not convinced the performance would be as slow as you suggest.
Scanning would be slower but usage would probably be comparable.

Technically speaking it may be possible to do what you suggest. You
would have to ssh into the Touch and set up the necessary mount
commands. However, this configuration is not supported because is
likely to be atrociously slow. When SBS scans the music library it

I searched and didn't find a previous post so forgive me if this is a
dupe. I also could not find the manuals to check.
Can the touch be pointed to a network share for the files instead of
using USB attached storage?
