I want to turn off the LCD screen and its LED backlight to prevent it from
wearing out too quickly and to save electricity. But I see that the screen

I had the same issue compiling a 5.15.36 kernel on Ubuntu 22.04,

There is nothing in /var/crash at the date of the crash nor about
lightdm. I don't know if this directory is periodically purged, but as I
remember, no file was produced.
I will not be able to reproduce the problem before end of august as all
users are in summer holidays.

I've upgraded from ubuntu 17.10 to 18.04 and I got the same issue.

For what it's worth, as other users already mentioned that, the issue
appeared after I installed flatpack and pitivi (yesterday). I
uninstalled both of them and cleaned remaining files but the problem
still occurs...
Flatpak might be related to the issue, or at least one of the triggers.

other problems with this 304.134 driver, and I tried to use nvidia 304.135 from
the ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa.
With the 304.135 installed, I got stuck in the login loop.
