produce a list to choose from. In 18.04, pressing ALT does show the

limit was *not* caused by disk / partition getting full?

Thanks Pat. The swipe-away and reloading of the dailer in comment #2
does work. Due to the length of time that process takes to get to a
working UI again (at least ten seconds) it's doesn't prevent me getting
into unwanted answering machines (I know you weren't suggesting it as a
solution).

receiving a call I can no longer use the dialpad or hang up. It means I
cannot navigate automated call-centers and that I cannot hang up before
getting through to voicemail because rebooting the phone isn't fast

where the name of the contact is unknown at the time of download then
the entire list has to be visually scanned by the user to try and divine
the new entry.

This has happened again today, but not with the browser - with the
dailing app. I'm attaching a screenshot to show it put I think this
might need to be reassigned to a lower-level package.

Note: These are mockups as I can't reproduce the issue right now. but
it's been happenening almost daily.
