I then went through a "Grub Rescue>" to get up and running again.

Aaaand... installing the hwe-edge packages on Xenial causes LVM EXT4
partitions to fail entirely because e2fsck cannot handle it.
A bit more of an issue than "wishlist".
Workaround: install Zesty e2fsck and e2libs and pray that they work.

Systemd should automatically wait for networking and DNS systems to be
in place prior to attempting to mount CIFS or NFS filesystems. This was
the behavior under Ubuntu 17.04. After upgrading to 17.10 the behavior
changed. Systemd no longer waits for networking and DNS to be
@odyx do you think the patch in comment #53 is suitable for debian? I'd
like to avoid a delta with debian if possible, so i'll defer sponsoring
this until we have some agreement on the fix.
