Beside the dependence on the binary blob, the open-source radeon driver is
really dog slow compared to fglrx. At least on an AMD E350. Even with fglrx
the integrated ATI HD 6310 will perform at mediocre level. I would rather
have a look at either laptops with Intel or NVidia chipset although
I could do a guide. Is something special required to get access to the wiki
for adding such a guide ? Over at archlinux every "standard user" is allowed
to edit the wiki.
Speaking of xfce, Does anyone have any idea on whether or not xfce4
works with orca? I'd like to have some idea before I install it and have
to re-install, lol. Trisquel blazes on my system and i've gone through
so many distros, fedora, ubuntu, debian, vinux which I'm still using and

I hope Flightgear can be tested on whatever graphics card thinkpenguin is
offering as it doesn't work well with Intel cards:

I started using Trisquel in part because of the publicity around the Free
Software Foundation and GNU. (and of course the drama around RMS)
I found a portable version. No need to install anything.
Of course it's as easy as installing XFCE and since you have Gnome already
included most of the Theme options are already there. Backgrounds, Trisquel
icon set, Trisquel Theme etc.
# apt-get install xfce4
I have created a bug report for [https://trisquel.info/en/issues/5191 this
bug]. When the fix makes it's way downstream we can mark this as closed.
We should probably have a guide on this...
If anybody wants to create one.
I was unable to find a way to install on the same HDD as windows. The box I
am using is booksize unit so adding an additional HDD wasn't possible. Since
the 5.5 install deleted my server 2008 partition it's not a problem any more.
:)
Not to worry the 2008 R2 install was rather buggy, and ev

You know from this conversation we are going to see a dozen or more people
for the next several years go buy cheap nvidia cards that work well although
provide no benefits or cards too new to work.
Anyway. I think we are mostly in agreement. The Geforce 8/9 are at least the
cards at the mom
Reading slashdot[1], I've learned about this serious bug[2] found and fixed
today.
I hope Trisquel's OpenSSL (0.9.8o-5ubuntu1.2 on dagda) will be updated soon!

Chris,
I understand your criteria to evaluate the 9500GT and I didn't want to
question it. I just wanted to point out for baptistredbloom that there are
other valid options beside buying the card you just recently offered.
I think this is fair esp. since he pointed out that he is on budget.
I'm really not trying to disagree with you although I think we have slightly
different perspectives and I'd just like to make people aware of why we chose
what we did. I'm not sure you understood our criteria / evaluation so I'd
just like to point out why we went with this card (the other pos
Maybe a new task to make an xfce-desktop metapackage would be a solution.

I'd generally agree with this statement. I'm generalising a bit here and
factoring in various things. This card comes recommended specifically because

Hi there,

Thank you.
I found sdlmame and xmame and I think I'll try them.
Chris,
thanks for your efforts and providing a working card with NVidia chipset for
Trisquel. The last few days I played around with Trisquel 5.5 as well with
big success. So far I was able to run the following games on my gaming box
under Trisquel:
- Xonotic
- Darkplaces with the mod Kles
There is no support. ATI's chipsets are dependent on a binary blob.
The older NVidia chipsets should work well. They aren't necessarily better
than the Intel ones though. There are missing features from the NVidia
drivers which the Intel drivers support.
Support is non-existent. They are dependent on non-free blobs.
The old old NVidia cards are well supported of the driver. However there
isn't much benefit from the older cards over the better support Intel
chipsets.
I sent a correction, but it was interpreted by the forum as a different
thread, so maybe you didn't notice it.

At any case, I think the sense of the message is clear: do not recommend/link

I don't know if there is still someone translating in french... You can ask
in the IRC channel or in the translators mailing list...
After contacting the existing translators (if any) you will have to ask the
translators permissions set by Ruben.
Hello,
I'm a native French speaker and could help with some translations, especially
of the release announcement. I have followed the link given in that thread
but don't understand how to proceed once on that page. If anyone could shed
some light...
The french translations are not very good updated, if someone would like to
update them it will be a very good idea!
I know French, but the terms that are used in the website are too
technicals...
We lack of organization... The translators are few and few active. I think
that we have to help them changing the organization. Now Ruben has a little
time before the work on 6.0, I think he has to organize better all, some
points are:
-fix the bugs on the website
-think a better way to give
How is the current support for AMD FUSION video?
I am considering a laptop with that.
I have got one Nvidia and I will try it as soon as possible. It's quite old,
so it's possible that it will be run properly. I hope so and I thank all the
developper team.
I'm very happy for this new release, the first update of Trisquel since I use
only it on my laptop.
I hope that my old Nvidia will work with 3D acceleration.
Thank to Ruben and all the developpers =)
