For the record, 'sudo -i' basically does what 'su' used to do. You may also
want to know about some kind of middle-ground: 'sudo -s' to get a root

In the Downloads window of Abrowser, I've noticed for a while that choosing
to open a program instead opens the containing folder in Nautilus. It doesn't
seem to be anything in the settings of Abrowser; deleting the

Abrowser should use the program you're system has associated with the file

You can test it by right clicking the file in the file browser open with

The default is Totem, unless I go to other, and then it's VLC.
The file manager is a choice shown in the menu, but not among suggested

Abrowser was listed in the other window (not in the menu, though), and I
removed the association to see if that would do
By default, I don't think Synaptic shows up on any menus (it was hidden by
default on mine).
Are there any menu editors that you can use in E17 to show Synaptic?
By default, the standard Trisquel uses gnome-app-install.
Amazing!!
Thank you. Very good for computers without 3D acceleration.
It's probably a bit much to say that the fate of this entire distribution and
of the ThinkPenguin company lies with DNS and myself. The ath9k_htc driver
has been included with the kernel called Linux since version 2.6.35. That
means 5.0, 5.5, and 6.0 all have a new enough kernel.

I caught Rubén on IRC and he will be sending an email to the trisquel-devel

He also said Abrowser 18 would be coming out soon for all Trisquel versions.
The N wireless dongle that he sent me did NOT work out of the box in any

Ubuntu's 3.5 backport kernel that I was able to plug it in with no problem.
I do understand that clever hackers and PPA junkies will find a way to
Many YouTube videos are also available in WebM if you join the HTML5

I was able to view the above with ABrowser in Trisquel 6 w/o any special

That's what I previously did. Also it's
I don't know any that play videos without JS (though I'm sure they exist),

I find that almost none of the youtube content I want to watch is available in
html5, and have to use one of the tricks like linternamagica in abrowser.
Thanks for the suggestions, Dave and onpon4. :-)

Wow, Ivaylo Valkov has a lot of projects! However, I visited a YouTube video

And I'll give unplug a go, since the latest linterna magica can cause orca to
have trouble focusing on abrowser's window. Since this bug has surfaced, I
toggle greasemonkey off until I need it for video watching.

As far as I know, no one outside of Qualcomm Atheros and those few people
working under NDA have even *seen* the source code for this yet so it's a
little premature at this time.
Don't worry, j3g, as I said: Once the firmware has been properly freed and
the source code made available,
t3g: We did a bit of testing in-house and I think Ubuntu 12.04 LTS worked out
of the box with the non-free firmware. Trisquel 5.5 is based on Ubuntu 11.10
though and the included kernel version does not include the driver to load
the firmware. Thus you needed to install a kernel + firmware
I think I might have tested the linux-libre kernel with the non-free firmware
and had problems. However I doubt that the code was removed or disabled to
prevent the loading of the firmware. It was probably something I was doing
like testing the firmware with the 5.5 release instead of with
You have me wondering now. I'm testing this as I write this.
Facts (just verified):
Ubuntu 12.04 contains the driver + firmware and the adapter works with it out
of the box
Trisquel 6 contains at least a partial driver although not the firmware.

:) I'd agree with you on this. Worded differently though I would say it is
important that Trisquel be easy to use for everyone. I don't think that

I have to say I like my job. I'm still baffled as to why. I think I'd prefer
to be working on Trisquel. However I'd never be able to do both
simultaneously. Every few months I find a weekend to do development-type
stuff. And then this job gets in the way. I've been working on a project
