i am new to the forum and to Trisquel as well.
I play the guitar (solo and with my group), write and arrange tunes and
recently managed to start recording with GNU/Linux.

All ATI graphics cards need nonfree firmware for 2d or 3d acceleration,
it will work unaccelerated if at all.
Most Ethernet cards work without nonfree firmware, while some require it
and won't work. There are also ones that need newer kernels than are
included in Trisquel.

Ethernet cards usually work. Only some Broadcom, 3Com or Atheros (with
a driver not merged with upstream kernels yet) Ethernet cards are listed
as not working on h-node.org; some Intel or Realtek cards use

enter your password

The files are on an external hard drive, connected by USB.
I also noticed that there is no option to delete files

you own the files. I think the owner's and group's names are in the 4th
and 5th columns of the listing.
What is the output of

Is there such an alternative that is solely free software ? I've made a
quick research and couldn't find anything.
VNC can be used to access remote desktops. I use x11vnc and ssh. (I
haven't ever used Teamviewer, so I'm not completely sure if it's what it
does.)

Looks like this is a fairly common issue. If my web search-fu is strong, this
happens because of a problem with the file system.
The best solution would be to copy all you wish to save off the disk and then
reformat it. Or if you're a gambler, you could fsck it. :)

I'm not sure, it was formatted as HFS+ with Mac OS X 10.6.8.
If I try to copy it, it says Permission Denied, or something like that.
Oh, I'm not sure how to work with those formats in Trisquel. Whenever I
want to exchange files, using a USB drive, I format the file system as
FAT on the USB. When sneaker-netting files from one machine running
GNU/Linux to another, I suppose you can format the USB as ext3, ext4, or
xfs?
I'm running Trisquel on my Mac Mini as my primary machine. I have a Time
Machine backup, too, (uses version control) but I just copied my OS X home
folder to an external drive, then installed Trisquel.

It's actually sad (IMO) to see such a good product disappear (and this even

Yes- although the free solutions aren't as easy to setup. VNC and similar
applications are very commonly used for remote desktop. You do have to
manually setup your router to do port forwarding unfortunately.
If you don't go with Intel for the graphics then the 9500GT is probably the
card you'll want to get. Its performance is a bit better than the current
generation Intels.
The wireless card you will want to get will have an Atheros chipset. AR9285
work well.

You should be concerned about these things on proprietary platforms even if
this particular instance doesn't negatively impact you right now. The more
people that accept these types of things on proprietary platforms the more
difficult it gets for users of free software.

I use an Apple-branded computer, called a Macintosh.
OS X runs in one PC. If you don't run OS X you isn't a Mac user. You is
Trisquel User :-)
It does make sense to call myself a Trisquel user, though, to avoid
confusion.

The answer for the most here probably is freedom. You only use free software
if you like freedom (some persons don't like).
I did so because most people said free software would never work, and I like
a challenge; the ethics are just the cherry on-top of the cake.
For example there are problems at every corner of free software, it's
implementation and it's online references.

I was reading about free software for a very long time before I started
advocating it. I read a lot of Richard Stallman's essays in particular. At
some point while I had the OpenPandora, I had a good understanding of what
free software, copyleft, etc is. I remember at one point

think I was looking for Ubuntu-based distros and this one caught my eye. So,
I installed it on my laptop.
