Hello,
just read this article about a completely free alternative to the raspberry
pi:
http://linuxfr.org/news/olinuxino-la-raspberry-pi-version-open-source
(it's french)
The article claims that the board is completely free .
Here are different models:

Isn't there already a free email client, or at least plug-ins, eg Thunderbird
with Enigmail and GnuGPG (I haven't used this.)
I have been using Tails lately in an attempt to be more secure

It includes Claws mail going thru Tor. As it's a live system, it's more
The talk wasn't particularly informative or interesting.
The talkers discussed at first installation of media codecs on GNU/Linux. In
Trisquel the relevant GStreamer packages are installed, and only encrypted
DVD playback requires running a script.
Later they discussed DRM and said it was
It just proves that whomever is running the prism-break site doesn't really

The FSF posted a resource page about Single-board computers a while ago. All
the current existing boards are not without their flaws (nonfree gpu, wifi,
bluetooth) but they can be used in freedom. They do note that the workarounds
are far from painless.
They also list the boards with fatal
I know this list, but
The free startup software does not handle the internal memory; therefore
these machines have to be booted from an SD card every time.
what's the problem with this?
I will boot from sd card anyway with this device.
And I don't want to use wireless lan.

It would be nice if a project would start that uses projects from

Hi all
I recently got an openvpn service. I'd like to use the DNS provided by the
VPN rather than my ISP. The advice on the VPNs forun is to edit
/etc/resolv.conf but Trisquel says this file will be overwritten.
Any advice much appreciated.
Unfortunately I am not capable of answering your question.
However, your question actually made me think, if Trisquel overwrites files
concerning DNS, does that mean that when using Tor in Trisquel I could
actually be spied on? (My ISP knowing what websites I visit).
If someone could answer
Is your DNS leaking? Connect to your VPN then check here
http://www.dnsleaktest.com/ , if it shows your ISP's DNS then your in
trouble.
Of course, I am not pro-DRM. I am
pro-people-learning-to-respect-the-license. That would make DRM
unnecessary.
I think DRM are bad and should be abandoned. But I merely understand why SOME
companies use them.
As for HTML5, I think it should be freely used, but the truth is that many
Well, as much as I hate the way DRM are used nowadays, I still say what I
have said before in this forum: users brought DRM on themselves, when they
started pirating stuff.
The suggestion on defectivebydesign is the correct way to do things. You
don't like a policy, you don't support the
Yes that is the trouble ;) Any idea how to fix it?
Thanks to everyone who replied.
However, no one actually suggested a way to get what I needed. I know

I don't mind you asking, not at all =)
However, I can't give much details, suffice to say I have no other machines
available at the time. I have only one computer, and no way to set a physical
firewall.
So, I really need to go with ufw.
But thanks for asking =)
In my opinion, a group of people who are free only minded, people who
refuse to even use flash to watch youtube, shouldn't EVER think about
pirating movies musics and books. It's contradictory and actually hurts the
cause.
Why is it contradictory?
Many reasons, but for me the main two are:
1. you want your freedom respected, but you don't want to respect the other
person freedom.
2. GNU exists because RMS didn't pirate UNIX, he created something new with a
new license, GNU. That is, in my opinion, the principle what should empower a
Agreed. It's better than nothing.
Anyway, I would like to thank both of you, both have provided very helpful
comments (Mampir actually told me what services to stop and how to do that,
thank you very much).
I am not an inexperienced user when it comes down to security, mind you, but
I make
That was a good suggestion f00bar. THANKS!

Yes, Tails is an option, if you don't mind the extremely limited usability. I
have decided to use Tor Broswer in a non compromised system (which I believe
Trisquel may provide).
One option you would have was to go with Thunderbird (or icedove) and use

The devices listed can be used in freedom, the only problem is that these
workarounds and non-functional hardware can be inconvenient to some.
Since these flaws don't bother you, there is no problem with these devices.
The website reminds me of cheesy virus-infested software download sites.
Nice! But did anyone actually go to chat with you via other ways? Most of my
so-called Facebook friends simply replied with I know and I don't care,
there's nothing I'm hiding anyway.
Regarding Tormail, it's offline due to the FH takedown. :(
Best to run your own mail server, and much safer

Copyright is a monopoly, not property. Being an unauthorized distributor of a
copyrighted work doesn't affect the copyright holder's freedom in any way. If
anything, it might affect their

I don't agree with that in the slightest.
Copyright infringement (what you call piracy) has another word: sharing. In
Kindergarten, we're taught rightly that sharing is good. Then, publishers

I watched this week's episode, made a comment about it going stagnant, and it
turned into a 100+ post discussion:

Are many of you still burned by the show from the Stallman ep?
I forgot the forums here hate certain characters. Here's a short URL:

Unauthorized distributors hurt the copyright holder's freedom, because he is
no longer free to determine how something that actually belongs to him, will
be distributed.
Truth is, and i have said it here before: people behind those sites don't
care about sharing or making a better world.
I'm just sort of quietly fading away from Facebook. Except I'm cheating
because I still log on to chat via XMPP client.
Kudos for broadcasting to your friends why you are leaving.
Sure, but if you go to the kid and hit him until he shares by force it's
not good, it's not sharing. Welcome to reality, that's piracy.
I am really confused how people can actually support both free software AND
piracy at the same time. ??
Unfortunately that's the same thing I hear from people when I talk about Tor,
and about how facebook and google are evil, and all of that.
Are people blind, or they just like to get screwed time and time again??
Didn't know tormail was down, thanks for the heads up.
I have not used it, but I think BitMessage is supposed to encrypt everything
including the sender and receiver, which would effectively do just that -

That's not a proper analogy at all. People who infringe copyright are sharing
themselves, not forcing someone else to do it.
I don't support attacking ships. Attacking ships is very bad. Sharing is
good, though, and copyright (which is currently a legal monopoly which
prevents sharing) is
How do you define freedom? I define freedom as the ability to control
your own life. Copyright does not control your own life. It controls others'
lives. That's power, not freedom.
You seem to be attached to the idea that copyright is property. This isn't
the case. Copyright is a legal
I know, me too. But as proprietary as it may look, it's free, and it works

not with Trisquel!
