Do you use nautilus-share?
Hi, I'm new to Trisquel and this forum. I moved from Windows to Linux Mint a
few months ago, and finally got around to trying out the Trisquel distro that
was on a free cover disc.
I had a problem with the screen resolution (I couldn't change it) which made
using the system difficult, and
Cool! Welcome :)
Thanks! I will do that.
Thank you for helping make free software better!
What a nasty and surprising bug!
Any comments on electricity consumption?
Well, higher power usage means it will
*cost more
*get hotter
*get louder if it has a fan
Depending on the usage of the server, you might be more interested in either
power usage when idle or power usage when operating at maximum speed.
Are all of these options Free software?
I made a wallpaper for Trisquel and it has several different background
colors.
I distribute these wallpapers for free under GNU licence :)

Feel free to give me some feedback :)
Well, just a mailserver should be able to run on basically everything. Now
making it keep up with spam is of course another matter entirely. =p
GPU doesn't matter at all for a server, normally you'd want it headless and
just manage via SSH or something.
(Unless there was some kind of server
It's because the thinks it is 1998 and won't use the forums on the Trisquel
site.
The download doesn't seem to work without nonfree JavaScript.

..How is that a bug? It's a feature, which I presume you asked for by
installing gnome shell and empathy and not setting them up properly.
I got a solution for ye. Use a proper desktop and a proper IM client. Like
MATE and Pidgin. It'll be good.
That's your opinion. I'm sure there are plenty of people who wants
auto-reply, what right have you to dictate what is and isn't a feature?
Even if it's not a bug, it's an antifeature, and it should be removed.
And how sad that must be for you, 'cause they're nice wallpapers, with a
color for every occation.
Man, the whole internet doesn't work without non-free javascript.
@dudeski, Mate doesn't appear to be in the Trisquel repo (or did i miss it?).
I don't think suggesting an out-of-repo DE is a very good suggestion...
I'm NOT defending gnome3 in any way! I wouldn't touch it with a 30 foot pole
myself.
Anandawardhana, can you check in the settings if this feature can be
disabled?
It's just a ppa, I see no problem with that.
But if you're worried about such things, there are other good DE's too, XFCE,
LXDE, or even just a simple WM like openbox or ratpoison. So far as I'm
concerned they're all better than Gnome Shell.
..Although in fairness, the new Gnome 3.8 classic
Dadix, you can upload them to http://gobblin.se , a MediaGoblin[0] instance.
The accounts there are free, (gratis) and MediaGoblin is free software, so
that means all the JavaScript is free.
Hmm. I seem to recall Value making some contributions to the Intel drivers
during L4D2 development, so who knows.
Then it's not a bug, but I agree; it should be disabled by default.
yes, it can be disabled.
Hi everyone; does anyone know of a GUI based DVD authoring program? I know of
dvdauthor, but that seems too difficult to use.
I want to make a DVD without a menu, in the MPEG2 format, because that is
standard.
I use DVD Styler when I want to make a video DVD.
All of us already know that, for proprietary (/closed source) software,
there's no way of knowing if the interfaces that we're using are telling us
the truth, or not. And that, from what has been discovered, a good amount of
the privacy agreements, that big corporations present to people who
Oooh.. That is rather clever. =o Man, I'm so looking forward to sexually
harassing my customer service representa-I mean robot.
Remember, it's all perfectly legal if it doesn't pass the turing test. =o
Done :)
What typeface is that in the logo? It looks awfully like Verdana, which is
proprietary.
It's DejaVu Sans.
Hi all,
Is there any possibility to check of the trisquel-os on a desktop is infected
with a virus, or malware, or other stuff.
On Win-d ows there are plenty of Antivirus programs and mostly you can see
that the system is infected.
Are there indications for infections of Gnu/linux trisquel ?
clamav, rkhunter, lynis are some of the tools available on trisquel
It's clamav from http:/www.clamav.net.
It's in trisquel repo. Look for Clamtk in Trisquel programs, which is a
interface for clamav, because clamav is a command line antivirus.
@spinoza, if you limit yourself to installing things from the default repo -
malware is NOT something you have to worry about.
FWIW currently it says on the GNU MediaGoblin instance: License: all rights
reserved.
I like the bright colors and gradients but to be honest I'm not a huge fan of
the design.
Why don't you provide the gimp/ inkscape files too, so everyone can create
his modified version of it?
Actually, there are no such programs for detecting GNU/Linux viruses and
other malware. ClamAV detects Windows viruses so that you don't infect
Windows systems. Viruses for GNU/Linux systems are a curiosity at best right
now, because on most GNU systems the only files they could possibly
Oh avoiding malware is easy, no need for any AV stuff.. Just follow the three
step mantra.
Don't own a computer, don't turn it on, and whatever you do, don't connect it
to the internet.
You can upload them to MediaGoblin as an attachment.
(...)because on most GNU systems the only files they could possibly infect
without you typing your password are those in your home directory.
Well, those are the most important files for the user, aren't they?
Does any freedom respecting GPS hardware work? I've got a Garmin NuVi and it
made me wonder if there was a worthwhile replacement. As far as offensive
proprietary gear goes, this one is right up there with the worst.
It seems that the small, single-purpose, electronics industry doesn't
Thanks for the links islander. I think that Postfix might be the better
choice, after reading your article, and also drtan's recommendation.
What are the mail transfer agent options, other than Postfix and Send Mail?
Is Postfix probably the best choice?
Are there any good ones that are
That's what backups are for.
The threat of some malicious program is hugely lower than the threat of your
hard drive failing, and it's very easy to fix if you have backups: just
delete your home folder. Problem solved. With a hard drive failure, you have
to buy a new hard drive and install
How do I convert a Theora video into MPEG2?
Thanks guys. I hope you don't mind; I copied/pasted some of your responses
for the documentation. I put some of your info in my own words also.

Is this just FUD?

VLC will work, you may need to install libavcodec-extra-53.
Andrew.
VLC converts video?
The Tahoma font appears to be a libre remake, according to this changelog.
No, the changelog states that Wine includes a free replacement for Tahoma.
However, the ttf-mscorefonts-installer package recommended by the wine
package downloads and installs the nonfree MS fonts. I don't know why it's
recommended; things look good in wine without the MS fonts.
No, not at all. It's absolutely true that you should be careful with external
repositories. But there's no need for antivirus software, and there's no
reason to be worried by the fact that there is no antivirus software.

Yes. Do File Convert to convert video and audio. You might need to
create a new profile to get the settings you're looking for, or you
can use one of the default profiles.
Andrew.
first define malware https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malware
next, from my point of view, if you take a ppa or a *.deb package that helps
you install propietary software such as skype on your trisquel machine it
means you have malware.
an antivirus is for virii not all malware.
i have not tried to replicate it but from my conversation on gnusocial:

it is a bug. you can only disable it manually but running in desktop it just
connects.

@andresm while I agree with your definition of malware (ie. including all
propritary software). i think the origional poster is probably using malware
in the commonly used definition, to include all virus/spyware/etc...
Hello everyone;
I've bought a lot of DRM free audio disks from the store that I work at (a
second hand record store) and have begun to rip all of them to my laptop so
that I can upload them to my OwnCloud installation and portable OGG player.
I've recieved a message that Audex could not
Anandawardhana, can you check in the settings if this feature can be
disabled?
@ssdclickofdeath , I am unable to find any setting that allows disabling
this. This appears to me as a bug. If the Desktop environment auto answers to
calls without even letting me know there's an incoming call,
@Anandawardhana, I've haven't been able to find anything online that might
help in this matter (I'm CERTAINLY not saying there isn't anything, just that
I haven't been able to find anything). If you happen to use IRC, i'd suggest
asking in Empathy's IRC channel #empathy on
From what I see, it has very little to do with Empathy. If I start Empathy
auto-answering stops.
I quote ..How is that a bug? It's a feature, which I presume you asked

I used DVD Styler to make a DVD of Patent Absurdity[0], complete with a menu!
Do you think Patent Absurdity wants the ISO? It's yet another way to watch
it.

I am a KDE user. I use Triskel. I can conveniently say why don't everyone use
a proper desktop ;-)
But from what I see, Gnome Shell is very likely to be the default desktop of
next Trisquel. And current Trisquel will continue till 2017! We have to get
this fixed. :)
It is not Empathy

I decided to throw in the towel on this for now.
I read another thread about how Pitivi 0.92 is an Alpha version. This thread
also mentioned that Pitivi 1 will eventually be packaged for the
repositories. I'm more in the user arena, and it seems the Alpha version is
out of my reach. It
