Wait there was new year? Cool.

yes
yes that worked. Thanks a bunch. :)
I'm not much of a gamer anymore, mainly because I'm pretty damn busy as a
grad student, but I want to say that I really appreciate the work that you
guys do. Telling someone reliant on windows for games to switch away for
ethical reasons is asking them to make a huge sacrifice, and whether w

Ah, I see what you mean. If that is the case, I may have to start my

I'm composing the specification, and I'd like to seek clarification on

Some manual pages contain references to firmware files for use in free
drivers. They do not specifically mention that the firmware is non-free, but
rather discuss compile/usage options, etc. This information w

Broken? Is it saying that you have broken packages, missing dependencies?
What? Please post the error message.
You must enable multiarch before installing Wine.
sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386
sudo apt-get update
It lags dudes!
Here's my graphics specification: http://codepad.org/pooa0er0
nope its trisquel 7. I said its broken because I cannot for the life of me
install it from the repositories. It keeps saying crap about being broken. ;/
Hm, I should research more. Supposedly, File-Roller does include support for
unar.

Unar is great for extracting RAR files, but I don't think including it by
default would be particularly helpful, because graphical archive managers
don't seem to be able to use it. Besides, RAR files are rare these days.
You're not describing your problem very well, but I'll answer based on a
hunch:
Trisquel 6 or 7?
I had no problem installing Wine on Trisquel 7. Trisquel 6, on the other
hand, has a problem with the ia32-libs-multiarch package, which is a
dependency of Wine in that version of Trisquel; see
That speech was a bit dull with his Cajun french. He needs to work better in
his comedy act to be able to catch others attention. Away from that opinion,
I had heard him speak the same stuff with a normal parle and he is good and
informative. Comprend Monsieur Barbu!
I just want to clarify that there are two well-known software packages called
"Unity", and only one of them is libre.
The one that is libre is the desktop environment developed by Canonical and
used by default in Ubuntu -- though do note that it is a rare case of libre
malware by default (y
Just curious but what was it about,
by that I mean the core of the speech.
I am guessing it has to do with changes and issues among other things?
Welcome!
I'm thinking about:
1) Unar - a program to unpacking of files; A fully open source, but it is not
supplied with the Trisquel default; I think it is worth mentioning in version
8 (I know that in a year and a half, but ...)
2) Replacing Shumway Gnash; Shumway is a project from Mozill
oh and also which version of ubuntu is trisquel mini based off of?
I don't care as much about non-free games as they are meant to be consumed
like movies and TV as they are artistic expression. While it is true that the
game engine may be non-free, the non code aspects should be protected.
donĀ“t think so. I just meant that the source from synaptic was broken lol.
Have you tried this PPA?

Indeed the same :)
nice language ;) btw.

Do you know if it will get fixed at any point in time?
I would greatly appreciate being able to use it again.
I need it for something and it is truly the only way. ;)
on a side note, I like this distro.

Yss!
Hello guys!! I'm new user of GNU/Linux. I would like to ask you, if Unity is
Libre?
Thanks guys, all your responses are very helpful.
No they're not. The checksums of Ubuntu and Trisuel packages (except for the
modified ones) are the same, and different builds generally give different
checksums (although projects like Tor have found ways to make reproducible
builds, which lets the user verify that the build matches the sour
Here in UTC-5, it's only 1:23 PM. :)
At a glance the problem seems to be trademarks and binary-only (Hence
non-free) packages. Trisquel replaces Ubuntu branding with its own (though
there may be some non-rebranded packages left, see the bug tracker), so
that's not a problem. Also, Trisquel includes only free software, which

Yeah, they are compiled from source (afaik).
I remember Valve talking about using Debian for SteamOS due to Canonical
wanting to force them to license the usage of Ubuntu Core and the packages
and also with Linux Mint where Canonical wanting them to license the use of
Ubuntu packages as well.
So how does Trisquel get around this? Do t
