Welcome to Trisquel Brian! No problem too l33t or too noob to ask here :) Since nobody has mentioned it yet, another common cause of suspend/ hibernate problems is insufficient swap space. In Windows, this is sometimes referred to as a "page file" and is just a file on the Windows partition.

Can you log in a real terminal (that you obtain with Ctrl+Alt+F1 or Ctrl+Alt+F2 or ... or ... Ctrl+Alt+F6)? If so, you can copy your files from there (with the 'cp' command).

The Trisquel installer usually creates a big enough swap partition so I don't think this is his problem. Running linux 3.13 is not ideal though.

If the RAM usage is above 1 GB when you try to hibernate (suspend does not use the disk), then, yes, it can be the cause. The 1 GB threshold is not exact though because the content off the main memory is zipped before being dumped onto the swap partition. Trisquel's documentation is a wiki.

My ThinkPenguin Wi-Fi USB dongle's Information pop-up has no entry for an IPv6 address, but its stated "Hardware Address" has hexadecimal IPv6 notation. That's the identity that I think should be immutably hardwired and blockable.

Try opening heavy apps, like LibreOffice and abrowser with many tabs. Then you should see a non-zero value. Also, suspend is not using disk but RAM, hibernate goes to disk.

Intel Advanced Blobs WIFI sometimes makes you unable to boot, and if it boots, your computer get lags. Only Atheros chips will work.

Please note: not all Atheros wireless controllers will work! In fact, none of the current generation of them will work, if I understand correctly. It's only particular models from Atheros that work, such as the one Think Penguin and Tehnoetic sell.
