I'd love to contribute; just don't see how it's feasible. I've tried Trisquel
on macs many times in the past and now with the latest ISO. Etcher is no
magic silver bullet. DD, my personal favourite, or any other program is
capable of writing the ISO to disk but they won't show up. There's
But dnt forget that, my machines is an GPT system which stands for you have
an ability installing and booting different systems at parallel. :)
Of course I'm a Hyperbola user but I still need Parabola and PureOS to

OK, so at least two of us have access to Macs for testing (my wife's is an
older MacBook - about 7-8 years old), that's great. It would be great to come
up with a fairly reliable set of instructions for installing Flidas on Macs.
Shall we start a separate thread to focus on this?

No, it doesn't. I'm not sure what part of my posts you got that impression
from, but PlayOnLinux is libre. What it has is installation recipes for
proprietary software, since that's the job it's

Exactly.

What are the errors you get?
I think what John is running into is the UEFI Bios. With most Win10 machines
these days there aren't any prompts for BIOS setup. You usually see the
manufacturer's logo and then a windows logo, and then the system boots.
You usually have to be really quick with the setup key press. Once you

Hi Everyone
I used to be able to rotate my Linux console so that if I typed ctrl-alt
F1 thru F6, I could access virtual terminals that were also rotated
vertically with my monitor.
I tried to run this:
sudo update-grub
And I am getting errors.
I altered my /etc/defalt/grub file before
Same with Hyperbola. only systemd is now effectively gone.
:)
Devuan init freedom/stability/security + Parabola libre importance =
Hyperbola's way
My point I guess is Hyperbola has all those advantages.
Although it does have some weaknesses too of course... but for me they are
well worth
Ah, Okay then.. welp I am confused... you said it had proprietary binaries in
it I thought.
Well either way, I still find it good to use playonlinux or winetricks rather
then use straight forward windows or other proprietary oses.
Take it for what it is worth. :/

Yes it's not yet come with the full OpenRC in Devuan, but in Parabola the
full OpenRC is available as an independent init system other than systemd.

speaking impossible. If X is a subset of Y, you can't have X with no Y.

I understand your confusion.
Let me explain in another way:
I love FLOSS culture.
I love DotA 1.
Being able to play DotA 1 entirely through free software would make me very
happy.
Before Wine, the only method of playing DotA 1 was to have Windows.
Wine is a step towards the desire of
I had this issue with a x200 flashed to Libreboot two years ago.
When I ran qemu with --enable-kvm or when I used libvirt (with virt-manager),
it freezed and I was forced to hard shutdown.
The x200 had a a P8400 Core 2 Duo, I don't remember the batch.. but on my
current x200 (with a P8600)
Trisquel 8 doesn't work. Burned an ISO to DVD using Finder's built in burner.
All is fine but the disc won't show up at boot.
At the same time, Debian 9 and Puppy Xenialpup boot just fine.

This game is a game inside the Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne. This game is
proprietary and it is made for a proprietary OS.
And what's going to help you install that is PlayOnLinux. Not a "libre"
version that strips out
If it is free software and more user-friendly than "Burn", then it is indeed
a good idea.

Don't you see the contradiction in this? You want to make it possible to play
proprietary games "without... anything
Devuan made this choice to install OpenRC during the installation, but in
Devuan Jessie i had no problems installing OpenRC with apt-get, maybe some
work with the services but it worked. I don't understand what do you say with
SysV deps, OpenRC it's not a complete init like SysV or SystemD,

Trisquel 9 will be based on the as-yet-unreleased Ubuntu 18.04 LTS "Bionic
Beaver". Including systemd.
I wonder if Red Hats's Fedora Media Writer could be modified to download and
write Trisquel ISO to USB. It's available for Win/Mac/Linux.

Select expert mode installation at the very beginning to install OpenRC with
Devuan? This is quite simply running pacman in an arch-chroot session in
Parabola that there is not a pain.
But for the currently installed Devaun systems (yes I have one) any measures
to get the full OpenRC like

Just tried using the Flidas USB I successfully used on my AA1 to boot up a
live session on my wife's Mac (El Capitan). No dice. I held down the Option
key, and got a screen allowing me to choose boot sources, but it didn't pick
up the OS on the USB.
Do I have to use a live USB *made* on a
Hey onpon, it's good of you to say this, and I'm happy to be part of a

For the record, I sympathize with the point you were making. As you know, I'm

Hi John, I also own an AA1, although mine is a bit older than yours (click on
my name next to my comment to see the specs). Mine was originally sold with
XP on it, and it runs Trisquel 8 nicely (running it off the USB as I post
this), so I'm sure it will work fine on yours. Feel free to DM

Your difficulty actually has nothing to do with GNU/Linux and everything to
do with the piece of software on the motherboard that takes care of
initializing the hardware and booting the operating. It needs to be
configured to boot on the pendrive rather than on the hard drive. To enter
Success! Today I:
* used wget to download trisquel_8.0_i686.iso - check!
* checked the md5sum - check!
* used Startup Disk Creator in Belenos to create a bootable USB - check!
* rebooted using the USB - check!
* checked the integrity of the USB - check!
* rebooted and launched a live session
Yep, mhm I have had experience with this.
A bit of a pain but doable completely and totally.
I disagree strongly with this, our first goal as a libre community is to get
people off of... PROPRIETARY OPERATING SYSTEMS!
Such as crapple, winblows and google crapbooks...
Your context is meaningless for this reason. Such purity is admirable for
libre culture, but it is harmful to expect
You are both saying things like "things is great", "this is bad" like you are

Why? Why not?
If you want to install OpenRC in Devuan ascii you have to choose expert mode
installation, then you will have a dialog to choose OpenRC, it's pretty cool.

Feel free to feel but it ain't so. Onpon4, in my books, is one of the most
proficient contributors to this forum. You should pay attention to ewhat she

The way I see your behaviour is that you are comming into posts and comments

I have a suggestion for you :
Look at the titles in the forum, do you see a title where you can contribute

Your language is very ultimatistic. You are using words like "there is", "it
is", and forgetting that not everybody shares your opinion.
For you, there is no point in having a libre playonlinux. For me that would
be totally awesome and definitely something to strive against.
You see. My
I would like to see if Trisquel 9 is to liberate Devuan 2 "ascii" main, or
simply importing OpenRC to the system from Devuan codebase.
But anyway you are of course free to install your favourite desktop using
apt, simply you are not forced to be stuck at LXDE if uncomfortable. I would
like to recommend LXQt.
In different libre system I run very different desktops, just a kindly
