Trisquel doesn't have fixed release dates, so no date exists. "When it's
ready." "At some point in the future" etc. :)
i3wm is a nice tiling window manager. Best of both worlds, it has a GUI but
it relies on keyboard shortcuts a lot. Tiling means no overlapping windows.
sudo apt install i3

Oh that's perfect, i didn't saw the netinstall iso
If you did not see it, the NetInstall ISO is behind the "More" link on

Whatever you do, follow my advice: before removing or installing any OS on a
modern laptop, flash the latest bios firmware in it, then attempt the
installation of wahtever GNUx on it.
You can use both graphical and terminal applications. Type Ctrl+Alt+F1 (or
F2 or ... or F6) and you will get a text session. You can go back to the
graphical session with Alt+F7. That said, I do not see much point, compared
to a terminal emulator running in the graphical session.
What you describe is the usual process to compile a program built with the
GNU Build Chain (aka the Autotools). Other programs use other build systems.
Programs written in interpreted languages need not be compiled. And getting
a package such as a .rpm and .deb (I believe that is what you
Netinstall lets you pick whichever DE you want.
I'm coming from debian, i usually use netinst iso, and during the
installation i will choose the DE. I'm now switching to trisquel, there is
any way to chose the DE before the installation? I prefear to install just
one DE, but on download page seem i have to chose and install MATE or LXDE
Fvwm 95 behaves a lot like Windows 95. There's a pager to choose between four
preinstalled workspaces.
Thank you
That screen is what you get when you choose Text mode from the USB iso at
starting? Or you have to create another USB different from the Trisquel iso?
It's there: 3. Setup 95 script

Current (FF63). Icecat is based on ESR.

Description: PGP signature
that is exactly as I think!
Is it based on current version or ESR?
"Newbies" or modern users conflate OS with the GUI. The GUI is only candy.
You don't need a GUI. UNIX is a black screen with white text on it.
ok, thanks, I understand that is the lowest choice.
I installed fvwm, now I ask you about what you told me: "click on desktop and
select fvwm95 script", I can not see it

The only difference between Trisquel and Trisquel Mini is the default
desktop environment. Trisquel has MATE as its default whereas Trisquel
Mini has LXDE. If you
Trisquel Mini is the same what in Ubuntu they would call Lubuntu, with LXDE.
If you need a fast GUI on low resources, use fvwm. You can't get lower than
that these days. I've used fvwm successfully on Intel Atom.

It's the same OS, but the *default configuration* of the OS is lighter.
Since you are reconfiguring the OS yourself this
Thanks, I did it because when I run the command you said it tells me I have
those packages installed and at the login screen I can select the mini choice
as you show.
But this is what Trisquel-mini is, a graphical lighter "environment"? I
thought Trisquel Mini was another kind of OS with
All packets are buid the same?
./configure
make ??
That's a great news, thank you
When is scheduled the next release?
Install package trisquel-mini and trisquel-mini-recommended.
Support for other architectures including power9 and arm is being worked on.
We made some changes to our build system that should make it easier, and a
new development server is coming soon. The target would be to have those
architectures supported in the next release.
thanks again, loldier.
Anyway I am thinking this laptop does not manage very well even these minimum
coices so I am trying to install trisquel mini, I tried it from zero in
another partition but it does not install it, it show messages of error, so
tried to "delete" Trisquel installation
There's another lightweight Window Manager/Desktop Environment to try: fvwm.
When installed, click on the desktop and choose fvwm95 script.
sudo apt install fvwm
Choosing the "Something else" type of install (or whatever it is called
nowadays), you are invited to manually partition the disks and choose
whatever type of filesystem you want for these partitions. There is no need
for several "install discs".
Debian has easy instructions to go by.

All I did to get Trisquel run in a Virtual Machine was to install these
packages.
sudo apt install qemu-kvm libvirt-clients libvirt-daemon-system
sudo apt install virt-manager
sudo apt install libvirt-daemon
Recently, I
Using the same install disc, I ran into a Intel Cpu that links to the same
lined screen and tries to install the EXT4 Fail ESP format.
And conversely I got an AMD Cpu to install using the same disc but it was XFS
defaulted to.
So I am leaning more towards the SSD Hard-Drive Micro-Code
