Yes. I didn't realize Netfilter was in the kernel.
I have skimmed though the F.A.Q and documentation but not intensively. I have
Trisquel Mini on another low-powered machine and have made a few tweaks. I
really enjoy both and think Trisquel is the best GNU/Linux distro.
I'm familiar with
Netfilter is in the kernel. Gufw is a graphical interface to ufw, which
manages that firewall, through iptables, shipped by both Trisquel and
Trisquel Mini.
After more research, I found that Trisquel doesn't implement a firewall by
default during installation. Using Synaptic, I installed GUFW. I'm still not
sure why my VPN will connect, but blocks all requests (this happened before
GUFW). It may require permissions or need to be set-up using
