an important security update). I went through the steps, but the status bar
never did anything, and I got tired of waiting. I then cancelled the update.

the same thing: that no updates were installed, that there are no updates to
install, and that my system is up-to-date. Thanks, again.

instructions for fixing this problem. Instructions that someone with only a
very limited amount of technical experience with text commands could

Using a Trisque

First I altered the BIOS to boot first from the CD/DVD drive. (I made the
default first boot media the 2nd boot media.)

first time I lost my Internet connection.
I contacted Verizon (in the eastern USA), and they tested my hardware and

I have never added anything from any repository. I am using wired (DSL). I
still have my "6" live media (DVD). And, yes, when I used it live, it did
connect to the Internet. I will try the "lspci" command when I get home from
work in 3.5 hours. (The only kernel I use is the one

then I selected a device MAC address from a drop down list.

Sometimes my keyboard does not work, and the only thing that I can do that
makes it work is to shut down the computer, turn off the power to it (and all
the other peripherals), turn the power back on, and reboot. (Sometimes I
have to do this two or three times.) It seems to be happening mor
Trisquel 7 used about 29% of my root partition. Trisquel 8 uses about 42%.
(And this is after deleting the older versions of the kernel.)
Why? Is there anything that I can do to make 8 smaller? Thank you.

I tried the two sudo commands autoremove and clean. They only brought it
down to 39+%.
I installed and ran baobab (Disk Usage Analyzer). It aborted because it
could not open a /tmp/...directory.
Ever since I updated to 8, every time I turn on the computer or reboot it
does the following:
It did not list any broken packages (I did it 3 times over two days). When I
executed the above command I got results, but I do not know what to look for:
/=5.6gb. usr=4.6gb. lib=2.1gb. share=2.2GB. etc.

was set up as 15gb. My user sda6 is 63gb, and I have only used 1% of it so
far. I suppose that I could reorganize the whole drive, and double or triple

I was concerned about adequate space for the upcoming Trisquel 9. When I saw
that Trisquel doubled in size from version 7 to version 8, I was concerned
that if it doubled in size again (with version 9) it would take up at least
80 percent of sda1

I typed: sudo du -hs /var/cache, and it freed up only .2GB.
I typed: uname -r, and it gave me: 3.13.0-100-generic.
I went into the Synaptic Package Manager and searched for Linux.
All of the Linux images with 3.13 had a green block to the left, as did an

Months ago, I created and used accounts on two web pages, and purchased
things. Now, when I type in my id(s) and password(s), nothing happens.
(Other things seem to work OK, such as adding to, and accessing and altering
a shopping cart.)
Is this due to some new feature in Abrowser, such as
I read abrowser about the various ways that I can customize blocking,
cookies, etc. I learned that I can disable all blocking for a given web site
by clicking on a shield icon in the address bar, etc. I was successful in my
attempt to log into my account and make a purchase. Thank you, jxs
