@Magic Banana: My country is Portugal. Didn't know about Globalia; i'll keep
it in mind and try to find if there's some translation in Portuguese or
English. Thanks for the tip!
I really don't know how i'm going to promote my magazine (maybe giving it to
people i know and, hopefully, the
I now find myself in a position that i wouldn't ever think i would be in: I
recently found that i am in favor of DRM (at least some form of it).
Here's the thing: I would like to publish a monthly emagazine in PDF format
and charge a small amount for each issue, but i want to set a password
Facing the facts:
For the first time in years i think i'm starting to see some light at the end
of the tunnel (maybe it's just a train coming right at me to run me over. I
don't know.), I think that i might have something that i can afford and like
to do, and make a modest living with.
That is just what i needed! Thanks SirGrant!
I'm unemployed and very, very poor at the moment. I'll gladly help to fund
Trisquel in the future, if i can. In the meantime i may have some skills (and
time, for sure) to help in some way: I'm Portuguese and i have already
volunteered to translate whatever i can to/from English/Portuguese.
Well, the software packages are back again and the system settings menu
entry is back too but i still can't install software with the Add/Remove
apps menu and i still can't make synaptic to work. Any advice on that?
I've set a password for GRUB in my desktop machine and now i can't boot
Trisquel and i get the following error: error: png: chunk size error.
alloc magic is broken at 0x1f706670
Aborted. Press any key to exit.
If i press any key i'll just keep getting the same message.
Before this happened i
[Sidenote]
What i really wanted with /var was to mount it all as tmpfs and then mount
/var/tmp onto a partition, but i noticed something unexpected: if i do that
Trisquel simply copies all the /var subfolders into /var/tmp (!)
Yes, i can understand that policy of the three volunteers. In the meantime
what happens is that i seem to be hanging forever awaiting for those other
two to come, while i could just might have translated everything by myself by
now! Heck, i might even die before we get a Portuguese
I've got it. Apparently i was setting the /boot partition too small {50 MB)
and as ubiquity didn't warn as it usually does about / and /usr partition
sizes i just kept doing it again and again :] I've set it to 100 MB and
everything's ok now.
Thanks everyone!
Hi everyone! I'm trying to install (i do mean install - not make a liveUSB)
Trisquel 5.5 mini on a 4 GB microSD so that i can make several partitions and
mount them with different mount options, just like i would do in a regular
HDD.
I've formatted all partitions as ext2 and i intend to
[I forgot to mention]
The microSD has a USB adapter, so it's just like a USB thumbdrive. I've tried
Trisquel as a liveUSB in that medium and everything was o.k, so the problem
isn't the device itself.
I just used apt-get install cryptsetup to install the missing cryptsetup app
and also installed (previously to cryptsetup) IcedTea; i haven't used apt for
anything else in a long time. Just one or two days ago i had cryptsetup
installed!
About the filled root partition: i have a separate
I forgot to place the link related to OpenNA Securing Optimizing Linux:

Sorry.
The problem is i have a very, veeery slow internet connection and i don't
know the amount of data it would have to download from Trisquels' repos to
make a net install. My bandwidth keeps switching from around 16 to 0 K/s.
I may give it a go, but i guess the install will keep failing over
I would say that some people here (and in many other places) have a mentality
of divide and conquer. They insert themselves into these forums and keep
stating that they support this and that, but they show otherwise as time goes
by, and they keep fuelling useless and redundant discussions.
Make sure you're still in the admin group with the command groups
your-user-name; you should replace your-user-name with your login username,
obviously!
If admin doesn't show up in the commands' output you'll have to add yourself
back to the admin group: shutdown your computer, boot with a
Maybe my previous answer to damage3025 was not in the most appropriate terms.
My sincere apologies to him.
:) Yeah... i think i'm getting deja vu here. There's the magic number in your
nickname. Lets play Find Evil Wally, shall we?
But hey, if you don't like free software don't use it! But if you really
think you're right in what you say then why do you feel the need to advocate
that,
An added bonus for linux is the chattr command, that prevents (in linux only)
a file deletion/change, but that's not what you are asking for.
I've thought of that myself (preventing drive formatting and content
deletion) and i'd really love if it was possible... but i guess that the best
I'm trying to revive the good old days checking the content of some floppy
disks but i just can't mount the device. Trisquel reports Unable to mount
location. No media in the device.. Ain't floppy disks supported? No drivers?
I thought that, instead of throwing those floppy’s in the can i

Just wanted to say that i've seen this:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Security#Potential_usage and have made
my /var partition mount with the noexec option, like it was suggested there,
and everything fell apart when updating Trisquel. I was getting not
permission messages when
Will do. Thanks! :)
I'd like to translate the website to Portuguese (my native language) and i
have sent an e-mail to http://trisquel.info/en/contact saying so a while
back.
I still haven't got any feedback... howcome?
I'm having problems installing the system. After giving each partition its
mount point and pressing next button ubiquity just hangs indefinitely with
the status message Saving installed packages..., as shown in the image in
attachment. I think it has something to do with the partitions not
@sphynx:
I'm sure it was TAILS. I have Trisquel in my desktop too and i had to use
cryptsetup to encrypt it. As far as I know, TAILS is the only distro that
has(?) swap encrypted by default.
TAILS has an interesting feature that safely erases all RAM when shutting
down the PC... I've
I think I should clarify that my refusal to use IBM's JFS file system has
nothing to do with the file system itself, which could even be the best ever
in the whole world, but with humanitarian reasons.
Maybe my PC's use IBM parts and I don't even know it, but if I have an
option, I'll do
Once again, thanks to all! Everyone's comments were helpful.
I'm gonna chew on all that info, but right now i have doubts about putting
/tmp in memory, like Chris recommended and sphynx also uses, from what i've
seen in his fstab file:
Isn't there a danger in placing /tmp in memory (just
Well, first of all thanks for all the comments so far.
I've chosen to have all these multiple partitions because I've read somewhere
(can't remember exactly where... maybe somewhere in tldp.org or searching
some partitioning-specific tip with some search engine) that it is a good
idea to
Yeah... You're absolutely right about hushmail. I really don't need
encryption in e-mail, but i wanted a less corporate webmail provider whose
servers wouldn't be so susceptible to outside interference.
I don't know... I really don't think there is one.
