I'm using Gnome and I can only run the network applet with sudo privileges.
Have you got any idea how I can either launch the applet as a normal user or
set the sudo privileges to an app in "Session and Startup" to run it as soon
as I log in ?

Free at last !! It took me a lot of time and hassle but I managed to get my
system back. I couldn't boot on the Trisquel DVD anymore, but I managed to
boot on my Snow Leopard OSX. From there, I was going to erase the hdd,
re-install OSX, then re-install Trisquel instead as I did initially.
I commented out the lines, but I might as well delete it, as you suggest.

Sorry if my previous posts weren't clear enough : I just can delete/modify
any file in the file system as I haven't got access to it anylonger. I wish I
could have a Terminal (but once again that would mean not being barred by the
Grub password). I'm in a vicious circle.

I can't see any link with the issue, but my browsers have come back to normal
