Thanks!
Thanks chaosmonk, that worked. I might as well try some others. Can you
recommend something?
I am using Trisquel 8 and have installed the ratpoison window manager using
apt. However, I don't get the option to select it at the login screen. Does
anyone have advice for turning it on? Thanks.
Would typing about:config in the URL bar suit your needs? You can toggle it
on/off there.
Hi everyone,
Some months ago I decided to give Debian a try. I installed it with a USB
stick. Since I installed it I have had this issue that's shown in the video
I'm linking to below. Every time I boot or restart I have to go through this
weird process of selecting the right options until
I don't know the answer to your question. But after I had some trouble with
Abrowser recently (discussed in other threads) I started using Icecat 60.3.0
and it's going well. This version of Icecat has that configuration screen
you're looking for. So I thought I would recommend it in case
For a while I have been getting by using the terminal emulator inside of GUI
emacs most of the time, M-x ansi-term. The $TERM echos as "eterm-color". The
old Desktop computer I'm currently using (my X200 is being repaired) can only
seem to handle Trisquel Mini without freezing continuously
Any reason why you wouldn't build it from source?
So I could put the GnuPG program on a USB stick and then put everything else
in an encrypted archive on the stick and make my encrypted files portable to
any operating system?
thanks Narcis. I used that tutorial to encrypt my USB very easily. The one
downside is that it only offered to encrypt it for GNU/Linux. So if I have a
lapse in judgement and try to plug it into Windows or MacOS I won't be able
to use it.
Thanks for the tip, Narcis. I installed it but I'm not sure how to use it for
this purpose. I will try to find some tutorials for it.
I understand that the best way to encrypt a USB flash drive is to have an
encrypted partition with the files and then an un-encrypted partition with
the encryption software stored so that you can open your files on any
operating system. But many tutorials seem to recommend encryption
I am using Invidious after reading this great thread. I was using Hooktube
and then they got a cease and desist letter from YouTube, so apparently they
were spooked and switched to using normal YT embeds. Is this an inevitable
fate for Invidious too?
Isn't there a VirtualBox alternative to use on Trisquel (libvirt)? I remember
reading about it here when I was trying to set up Vagrant on Trisquel. I
eventually gave up though, it seemed a little complicated to me at the time.
I would like to explore this again myself.
I had the same problem. I had to not use the setup wizard to get around it.
The ossguy who runs it seemed to know about that issue, but I don't know if
there is any plan to fix it.
I must say, this is really cool.
It's working now, I had it configured it wrong.
Thanks again!
Thanks chaosmonk. I had to go reset my JMP password because I lost it. Now
that's done but I am still having trouble calling through linphone. It keeps
timing out whenever I try making a call.
Linphone keeps saying:
> Registration on failed: no response timeout
I'm not sure why it is
Hey everyone,
I stumbled upon something called JMP while browsing this forum and got setup
with it. But I didn't see anywhere how you are supposed to make and take
calls with it. I already have the SMS part working via pidgin messenger and
XMPP. I know one of you sagely people knows the
Perfect, thanks!
Thanks, I'll look at xmodmap. I'm using the default MATE.
Just to clarify because my post is a little unclear: the capslock comes back
mid-session, without me logging out or restarting the computer. I'd like to
know the trick for setting this in the most permanent and reliable way if
there is one.
Greetings, I would like to disable capslock permanently and replace it with
ctrl. I used this:
> sudo setxkbmap -option ctrl:nocaps
It works temporarily, but then inexplicably reverts back to the old caps-lock
behavior. I also tried changing this file:
> /etc/default/keyboard
By using
Thanks both of you. For the record, I tried what you suggested first,
Chaosmonk. I got a bunch of notices with the following error:
E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by
held packages.
So I just gave up and tried installing from a USB again. That
Last night I upgraded from Trisquel 7 to 8 by changing: /etc/apt/sources.list
and just replacing "belenos" with "flidas". And then I ran:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
It seems to have succeeded because now:
> user@Taurinus-X200:~/Documents$ lsb_release
Thanks J.B. Nicholson-Owens,
I will give your suggestion a try. I don't need that docker, I actually
thought I had deleted docker, but it still keeps trying to fetch that for
some reason. I didn't know you could edit that, so it's nice to learn
something new.
I have commented that out
Hi everyone,
I am currently using Trisquel 7. Whenever I try to do an =apt update= I am
getting this error:
```
W: Failed to fetch
HttpError404
Thanks jxself. I just sent an email to Libiquity asking why they don't
recommend or ship with the latest version. I am a little nervous because they
didn't recommend (or ship) that originally. Do you have any theories why?
I'll use the PPA for git until I can make sure there's nothing about
Hey chaosmonk,
The guy from Libiquity said that their boot firmware has a bug which is
exposed by the new version of the linux kernel that Trisquel 8 uses, where
the issue is that the clock resets itself to 1970 on each boot. He said if I
upgrade to Trisquel 8 I would need to install a
Hi everyone,
I am new to Trisquel and free software generally, with my Libiquity Taurinus
laptop that came with Trisquel 7. I am trying to use an emacs package called
Magit, which says
Error (magit): Magit requires Git >= 1.9.4, you are using 1.9.1.
Is this 1.9.4 version freedom
