Yes. The problem is, that, if you want more powerful CPUs, you must to buy one with microcode. Only alternatives are ARM, Core2Duo-Quad.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Libreboot 20160818

2016-08-21 Thread dguthrie
Microcode isn't a malware function that can only be removed by Intel. It is a function of the chip - how hardware instructions communicate with raw silicon. Even if they released source code you probably couldn't change it. It could be malicious but you're best getting a chip designed

They're fine for heavy usage every day. People use Libreboot systems for servers and other uses. I think at this point we are focusing on numbers rather than real-world performance.

No, CPUs with more IPC are "i" series, and have microcode (backd00r, powerful rootkit) built-in, no one can remove it, only Intel.

Well, that sucks because I feel the IPC from Core2 and pre-Zen Chips are like the new Pentium 4, they're trash. Though, I think the dual opterons can still be usable depending on how multithreaded your workload is and can afford the electricity, but there's stuff to look forward to like

That is all true. But you are best randomising it in software, as opposed to hardware. The default could still identify you on a network, if you are only one or two of people with such a MAC address (and if there are two of you, there is a fair chance that the network would crash, not
