I'm making my own sites. Usually they are quite small, a few Megabytes in all. But the free providers I find are just spam generators: everything is unsafe. They email the password in plain, they lack even HTTPS. I am looking for a clean provider that is safe too. Do you know any?

If they're just a few MB then setting up your own server based on a cheap 'black box' and using a dynamic DNS service like no-ip.com is probably best (check your broadband/cable TCs though). That way you're guaranteed free software only. There was a free software friendly webhost, IIRC
