Seems like Powershell wasn't a killer app after all... They want people to use it (perhaps for a slightly malicious intent) but the only way to get "nerds" (the target audience) to use it is to offer it to other operating systems, and with a soft-libre license.

If I recall correctly, Microsoft didn't adapt the Linux kernel. As far as I have studied so far, they seem to have studied the base specifications that allow file system mounting and program execution (perhaps this has something to do with Unix and the Linux Standard Base?), and nothing else.

While that would be cool technology wise and to some degree security wise. But that would be yet another example of why the Linux kernel should have been moved over to GPLv3. On GPLv2 MS would still be able to ship it without allowing people to modify their local version.
