AFAIK it should be possible to install MuPDF without installing the MuJS library, as the website states that it "is designed to be useful as an independent component" (https://mujs.com/).

"atril" is the default PDF viewer in Trisquel 8.0 LTS, Ubunut-Mate and Xubuntu changed it default PDF viewer to Artil on 18.4 release. Another option will be "xpdf"

I'm searching for a good pdf viewer that can't handle javascript embedded in pdf files. The reason for this is to avoid exploits with javascript like Heap Spray. I know that evince doesn't have javascript enabled but gnome developers want to add this feature in future. Okular have partial jav
