Whether it was "better" depends on how you look at things. Oprah was probably more spectacular. But Oliver potentially changed many more lives - 9,000 v 276 audience members. And from what I can understand, Oliver didn't leave lots of audience members with large tax bills as a result of winning

Yep, since it was revealed after it happened that Oprah didn’t really spend anything for the cars. They were donated by the manufacturer for publicity. So if Oliver spent “less than $60,000”, that’s still more than Oprah spent on her giveaway. From: tvornottv@googlegroups.com
