Look into the documentation on NLS
1) Date
- does the date display / entry need to be localized.
2) Multi-byte characters
- printing will be an issue that need to be tested throughly. Using command
like PRINT MYCHAR 'L#10' will NOT align the multi-byt
I filter "out of the office" messages, and this entire thread was pulled
from my U2 folder and dumped in a "don't bother" area. I'm SO happy I did
bother. BTW, Disclaimers of confidentiality in a public forum area about
as annoying as out of office notices. ;)

We have been running for just over a year. We converted from DG/UX
(intel platform).
We went from intel to intel, so we didn't have the 'endian' issues. I
did recompile and catalog all code and recreate all indexes on our files
for safe keeping.

As someone else mentioned for unix you need to 'acquire' 3rd party software
in order to access non-unix databases from unix, i.e., MS SQL, Oracle, Sybase,
etc.
We're running AIX and have found Easy

RAISE(TRANS('filename',field,field,'X')) The reason for this is that
when you use a file translate in an I-Descriptor, it drops fields to
multi-values, multi-value to sub-values etc...

MySql is easy - i understand it is perhaps not as easy if you are
talking MS sql and your U2 is on unix - as said above third party
drivers are required or an odbc bridge !

Hi unidata 6 and now 7 on linux - if you have a unix odbc driver then
it should be fairly easy. If there is only a windows one available
then you can use an odbc bridge (i think easysoft or similar do one) -
it is basicaly a unix odbc driver that attaches to a windows server

A couple more points:
1. You can specify a share name to SETPTR so long as the printer has been
locally added to the system. The share name cannot contain spaces.
2. SOME printers will work if you use a generic/text only driver and install
them locally, however ...
3. You may need to spec

aware still is) done using UniVerse on Linux. This was a combination we used
for over 10 years. Stable certainly.

We have been running Uv 10.1.0 for just about 2 years now on RH 8.0
uptime on our production machine is 261 days, and last downtime was only to
insert another scsi controller to external backup.
We came from a Digital Alpha running Thru64 4.0e so no fnuxi was needed on the

It works fine and the only problems we had was with the ODBC driver
