Does anyone know of a good resource for learning how the U2 XML works? Is
it reliable? I have a new project coming up and this functionality is
needed, but I haven't found anything real complete on it.

Due to the block size on the drive under Win 2K, is there ever any

efficient (minimal) as possible.

I agree, but I would add that you also want to look at it from a lock point
of view. Locks are hashed into shared memory using the group #, so if the
more records in one group, the more will hash into a single lock row. IIRC,
record locks are promoted to group locks if you have more than one
