I've investigated writing a Rails database adapter for UniVerse but
it doesn't look like it will be easy.

If you can put a business case together and get a number of people who can
identify the business opportunity then the U2 guys will adopt it. U2 is
about to close off the specifications for the next release of Unidata fairly
soon. If you are prompt, ruby on rails may be in the next relea
