You know what,
lets not create an official theme and have the user choose a theme from
a list when the account is created
or have a dialog to ask which OS they used in the past and have it open
themes to make it look like that os

I agree, when i used vista, I had 40+ system tray applets, and that took a
toll on my laptop. That's why I switched to ubuntu, to not have 3 rows of
system tray.

I agree whole-heartedly, we need more complete themes than we have. We have
a lose collection of both GTK engines and window borders, with only one
complete set. If I knew how to make gtk themes, i would have one sent out
already.

Right now I'm testing the first link Dana proposed and I could say It's
just brilliant. It works and the CPU is near zero % (it may use the
GPU). The transition from the one to the other image goes smoothly like
this img1:90%, img2:10% ; img1:80%, img2:20% and so on. Thus
loving the element idea as soon as I read it. It would
really set ubuntu apart in terms of looks with pretty much every other OS
