Easy Peasy is really Ubuntu 8.10, I am sue that you know that. There is
a fix relase for Jaunty and it appears that other users have confirmed
that it indeed is fixed in the newest release. I am on an EEE Pc

Thanks for the notes. Yes, I noted that there is a fix for the new
Ubuntu, but I am currently using Easy Peasy 1.1 Distro which advises
not to upgrade the Ubuntu OS. Further confusing is that

OK, It appears that you are running Jaunty so you may want to run the
update manager to check for updates for Pidgin. I have heard for other
users that the bug has been fixed. I do not use Pidgin i use
