Can you try to run 'unity --reset' in a terminal and see if that helps?

I am not quite sure but Nautilus also exhibited same behavior in Natty. In
Oneiric it doesn't start at all with gksudo.
I don't have Natty anymore, but I am using Oneiric extensively so if I come
accross anything I'll let know.

After recent updates logout to lightdm still occurs unexpected.
After boot I edited a text file with gedit, only few words and got logged out.
While writing a bug report it didn't log out.
Writing only few letters with gedit logged me out.
When I start to write fast here it logs me out. (just
Its too bad that this bug expired, because it still an issue, even with
Thunderbird 5 (and a few other applications).
Switching to applications on a different workspace is simply unreliable.
