To help those needing to have a reliable workaround, it is this:
If NO Libreoffice documents are currently open, ensure that you open an
EXISTING file from the general LibreOffice 'White Window'. Then the
menus should be displayed.
This works for me, whereas minimising restoring etc. produce no
Bug 1066435 is what I referred to in post 24. Turns out it was a
problem with the snd-powermac module. 2blue, I think you just needed to
use ctrl-alt-f1 to get to a command login prompt.

I have this same issue with both 12.04 and 12.10... don't think it's a
kernel problem. Using ctrl-alt-F1 at boot-up black screen and using
terminal to issue these: sudo service lightdm restart immediately
brings up the desktop, Unity3D, Intel HD3000, dual SSDs, 8GB RAM.

The system locks completely so i had to remove 12.10 and install 12.04 so i
can't reproduce it right now.
I've read on the net that it was a speciffic bug with fglrx and hybrid GPUs
(intel/amd) with xorg 1.13 and kernel 3.2
I belive the Xorg.0.log backtrace is the only info
note that misplacement of texture in !!Maximazed state!! of dash is
smaller than when the dash is !!Not Maximized!!.

Just upgraded to 12.10 from 12.04 (64 bit) and noticed that the
venerable Wallpaper plugin seems to be missing from CCSM. This plugin
is important to me because it allows me to give each viewport/workspace
a different wallpaper so that can be easily identified.

Same here on 12.10.
I can start a container. After shutting it down, it wont come up again.
The console just hangs right after issuing the second starting command
with no further output line.

compiz crashed while xbmc [unredirected fullscreen
NetworkManager doesn't block the boot process. If a wireless network
isn't available, it will jsut ignore it after a timeout, but the whole
thing is done in parallel with the rest of the boot process.
