I forgot this system had vmware tools installed. I tried removing that
and the problem went away. I guess something in vmware tools must have

I have provided the links regarding Hyper-V and IP Injection in the Bug

Let me clarify the doubts.
Hyper-V acts provides H/W virtualization functionality and acts as a Host
whereas Ubuntu 13-10 is a Guest operating system.

To be honest, my fix was to get rid of network manager and use wicd
instead...though some dist-upgrades put network-manager back on and force
me to purge again.

I just tested it off a xubuntu 14.04 image, and it works as intended
with blueman, its clearly a bluez issue. If i use blueman under ubuntu
without removing bluez, things get confused, but at least it recognizes
the device. My guess is that removing bluez will solve things
altogether, the problem
We might include a setting to control this value, if requested, but for
now the easier way to get this enabled at login time is:
sudo gedit /usr/share/gnome-session/sessions/ubuntu.session

I compile myself the vlc-2.1.4, download from the official website. It
can work fine.
If it is something like that, why can't we just replace the vlc-2.1.2
