same problem, no USB devices attached to the affected controller would
work at all. A complete dmesg log would have the details we need to be

After some more experimentation it seems closing Spotify triggers the UI
freeze often (2 out of 3 attempts). It freezes both for closing from the
tray icon (which is misplaced right above the power button?) and through
the File menu in Spotify. Is this perhaps related to wine?

My machine cannot boot without a monitor plugged in. On my old pc I
never had trouble starting or rebooting ubuntu without a monitor plugged
in and it's a real hassle to have to plug one in just so I can boot or
restart Ubuntu.

I manually added this fix and that worked for me. No problems so far.

The problem was not resolved with the alpha 6 of Ubuntu 9.10, but after
a normal update this morning the cdrom was automatically mounted as it
should be.

The cdrom is not mounted in Ubuntu 9.10 alpha 5 with all latest updates
(2.6.31-10 kernel). Before system update the cdrom could be mounted, but
not anymore.
I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 alpha 5 in VirtualBox 3.06 on a Windows XP host,
but I don't think that is the problem since
@Andy, if the more specific fix you refer to is a hotkey-setup change,
that is only a workaround and not a sufficient fix. The kernel should
never panic or hang, no matter what user-mode applications do. If you
pick up the kernel change from comment #32, the hotkey-setup change
should not be
