I've gone through everything on the above page. Tried different sound
servers, made sure my card was at index 0, made sure nothing was
switched off, all levels up, etc. Nothing seems to work.
cat /proc/asound/cards gives me:
0 [IXP]: ATIIXP - ATI IXP
ATI IXP
Confirmed in 8.10 with visual effects enabled.

It's never worked at all. I've tried a few times over the past year to
put Ubuntu (8.04, 7.10) on this machine, with no success on the sound
front.

Have a laptop, Compaq Presario V2311US. Just installed Ubuntu 8.10.
Everything works great for the most part, but sound doesn't work.
lspci shows the controller as:

protocols. Unfortunately, none resolved the issue.
I've not heard from the development team since trying the Alpha5

I have a similar problem using the newest version of intrepid (beta).
I'm using a dell e1505, and it always hangs on the message,
iwl3945: Tunable channels: 11 802.11bg, 13 802.11a channels
Similarly it only occurs about 50% of the time, and if I'm using the
usplash it's about 2 and 1/4 bars in.
I've tried the Alpha5 release (as a CD) and I'm afraid that the mouse
problem remains.

OK, I managed to do this via SSH and attach the log which should show up
the erratic movement of the mouse and a couple of button presses.
Incidentally, if we can't fix this today I'll be away for 2 weeks so
there'll be a pause.

boot line. I can't try loading and unloading while the mouse is
connected through the KVM as the desktop is unusable.
