Here's my solution:
- Download the official Java for your platform (x86 or x64).*
- Put the jre folder (make sure it's named jre) in the same folder as the shell
installer. This causes the installer to use Java from your jre folder, instead
of any installed copies.
- Make the shell installer
So far I haven't gotten my computer to crash at all with the new kernel.
It appears to be fixed (this may change) for the moment.

This bug nearly killed me! I was using my system like normal, then
suddenly everything froze. I wouldn't thought everything crashed except
