Follow this steps, it works for me:
1. Run
$ sudo -H gedit /etc/default/grub
In the open window edit line
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
it should look this way
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash i8042.nopnp"
Save file and run
$ sudo update-grub
2. Run

I don't remember the exact steps, but I think uninstall/remove using

none worked for me.

1. Install Gnome Screensaver

2. Replace Light Locker with Gnome Screen Saver

5 .Save the file and close it.

The above workaround suggested by cweiske doesn't work for me in Ubuntu
12.10 Network Manager 0.9.6.2. Trying to enable second VPN connection
disconnect the first one.
