I would assume it is the Ubuntu kernel, as the person that actually
tested it used the maverick image and followed the directions at

omapdss.def_disp=tv from your command line. Also, if you could capture
the entire boot log from the serial port and add

edit the boot.scr again at this point, before letting it boot through.

driver should be developed and pushed into mainline, THEN it can be
included in Ubuntu kernels, either through backporting or new releases.

default to it instead of une-efl. GDM was setup to autologin, and unity

The omap4 images are currently not being build with the linux-headers
for the installed kernel. ubuntu-kernel lists the recommended headers
for the build architecture, but linux-headers-omap4 is currently missing
from the list.
