Ok sounds like it could certainly be the same or very similar.
As to moving forward with this, the various Ubuntu touch patches are
needed to support various hardware that is used on Ubuntu phones.
I am also getting hold of similar hardware and will be looking into
this again once it arrives.

that has no copyright assigned to it, mostly in the qml code.

Ok, false alarm. It wasn't showing up because it doesn't seem to
reconnect automatically if I leave the headset on during a relog/reboot.
After using bluetoothctl to reconnect the headset, pulse seems to work
perfectly every time, so I am unable to reproduce the problem.

xenial package (1.0.28-2) installs 1.0.29
yakkety package (1.0.28-2) installs 1.0.29
Obviously, each of those package should install version 1.0.28 based on
their package name.

It's not just the 'Close Preview' button. Multiple UI elements throughout are
affected. Other examples include
File > Templates > Manage > "New Folder"

Having a chance to look at things more closely, Unity definitely appears
to be running. (By this I mean compiz started with the Unity plugin,
and unity-panel-service is running.) Running unity from the command-
line stops and restarts everything, but the desktop remains blank.

The settings used to set the default Ubuntu MATE home page are currently
always overriding the users' preferences, which defeats achieving a good
user experience.
Steps to re-produce:
1) Open Firefox to the preferences page.
2) Set the home page to a different URL.
3) Close

And, ah, a slightly different issue than Debian bug #827740 since the
package in wily/xenial/yakkety doesn't depend on python{,3}-sympy at
all.
