I get the same error messages. Firefox can run as the sudo local user.
But, when a user authenticating with ldap and mounting a homedir on
another machine, firefox and openoffice just hang. Other gnome programs
do run.
What other info can I provide?

I installed gtk2-engines 2.8.0-0ubuntu1, and after logging out and then
in again, the problem is resolved! No more ugly frames where they don't
belong.
Perhaps this should be marked as fixed once the package hits the repos?

Well, it seems that the sky2 driver had support for 2 devices that the
sk98lin driver doesn't support, and can't without extra patching.
I'm uploading a new kernel for dapper tomorrow that re-enables sky2 just
for these devices.

At the grub menu, change the line root=/dev/sda1 to root=/dev/hda1.
After booting, edit /boot/grub/menu.lst, remove the line with kopt_2_6,

You must have a different bug then. However, if you see root=/dev/XXX,
e.g., not root=UUID=xxx, then you have a bug in the fstab and grub
updates.
If you aren't using grub, then you are hitting the same bug but in a

disk labels such as /backup to reflect their purpose. I mount them

the issue.

Daniel Chen suggests to reload the snd_intel8x0 module with the
parameter ac97_quirk=hp_only. This worked for the original poster,
jvm crash is unrelated to this bug.
Assuming you're having the same jvm problem I did, add
'/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun' to /etc/eclipse/java_home, probably at the top.
By default, eclipse doesn't seem to search in Ubuntu's directory for Sun Java
5.0.

I forgot to mention that by looking at the workspace switcher in my
panel, it seems that rhythmbox does indeed appear on workspace 3 for a
split second, but then is moved to the current workspace. Also, I just
saw that if I open the preferences window, rhythmbox is then moved to
workspace 3.

The problem is, that if the text label is the only part of the window that
can be selected, gtk will select the whole text. Seems to be a bug in GTK.
Strange indeed... but aren't all bugs strange by nature ;-)
As a workaround, can't we try to fool GTK, for example by adding another
label widget

upstart seems to work almost fine on ia64 (no spinning) but i can't get
serial console. The machine i have has also a gfx so it probably spawns
the normal tty (no monitor to check) but with append=console...
upstart should also create ttySX.

1) wait until there is a few updates in the update-manager, so that
there is more than one entry in the list.
2) open the update-manager
3) click on the details arrow at the bottom, to expand

I guess this has been fixed along with the UUID and other updates. I
can't reproduce it anylonger.

I am having a similar problem when install via adept. I'm running
Kubuntu 6.06 LTS Dapper Drake. Though vmplayer actually does now work,
the install is listed as failing and actually prevents any other updates
from being applied. So my first question is how can I get adept to
ignore what it
confirm it
